Course synopsis
Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) is a Chinese exercise system derived from Daoism, one of China's oldest belief systems.
This mindful exercise is often likened to ‘meditation in motion’ and is well known for improving balance, co-ordination, body awareness and posture.
We practise various tai chi short forms together with Qigong (breathing) exercises, to boost energy levels and relieve stress. Form sequences are performed in a slow, relaxed manner and promote a feeling of tranquillity, through concentration on the movements and deep, regulated breathing.
Tai Chi classes at the Guild are relaxed and friendly, and suitable for people of all ages. No special equipment is required and loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes are recommended.
The instructor has been teaching for twenty four years and is an instructor member of the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts and the Tai Chi and Qigong Union for Great Britain.
