Would you like to learn the language of the ancient Romans?
Fortunately, Latin is not a “dead language” at all; it’s...
Liz Syed is a qualified Language Teacher (and also a qualified Speech & Language Therapist) with many years’ experience of teaching Latin, French and German to learners of all ages, from 2 to 102! She is especially keen that Latin should be a language for everyone to enjoy, employing up-to-date,“brain-friendly” teaching techniques to make learning Latin fun, stress-free and accessible to all.
With a lifelong interest in learning languages, Liz is also passionate about raising awareness of recent research by the University of Edinburgh about the benefits of language-learning in terms of brain health, especially regarding its potential to delay the onset of dementia. Learning a language is one of the best ways to give your brain an all-round “work-out”, with significant positive long-term effects on brain health. With this in mind, Liz has recently started running language sessions in care homes for older people, including people living with dementia, which she finds extremely rewarding.
Liz is currently giving her own brain a work-out by learning Mandarin Chinese, with the aim of teaching this fascinating language in the not too distant future!
