About this teacher
Daniel and Richard are alumni of the Music Department at The University of Manchester where they have been co-teaching klezmer ensemble performance since 2018. They also co-direct the university’s klezmer ensemble, the only of its kind in the UK. They co-hosted the inaugural international klezmer education symposium (in 2021) and have published (an article and a book chapter) on teaching klezmer.
Daniel has been a freelance performer of klezmer and jazz music since 2012. Richard has been a lecturer in the Education Department since 1994 and is also a composer and performer. Together, Daniel and Richard are co-directors of intercultural musicking company Modalways CIC, which organises community musicking events in care homes, for the Association of Jewish Refugees, for new and returning musical learners with the Klezmer Tune Club, and organise twice-yearly klezmer dances in collaboration with the Halle Orchestra.
