About this teacher
Alan is Professor of Musculoskeletal Health at Oxford University and Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College. Prior to that he was head of the Arthritis Research Unit at Manchester University and subsequently the Medical Director of Arthritis Research UK (ARUK). He has a particular interest in chronic disorders and has advised government on these. Whilst at ARUK he was the media spokesperson on all arthritis stories and was a regular speaker to patient organisations. Passionate about communicating to lay audiences about medical matters, he took up that challenge during the Covid-19 pandemic to explain the unrolling twists and turns with his blog “Making Sense of CoVid-19 with Silman” and gave talks and Q&A sessions to many community groups.
