Understanding Your Old Building – Historic Buildings And How To Care For Them

All Events

Information

This introductory course is aimed at the non-specialist house owner. It will introduce homeowners to better understanding old buildings. We will cover such topics as researching the history, materials, and construction phases of old buildings and learn to recognise performance indicators (like breathability and moisture movement). We will also look at how past changes shape its present, guiding appropriate care with compatible materials like lime rather than modern cement. Lastly we will research the free online resources available to all to ensure that we understand how to extend, adapt and reuse buildings whilst preserving their significance, character and function.
