A Tale Of Two Bindings, And The Craft Of Binding Books By Hand

All Events

Information

Barry returns to the Guild to talk about the revival of the craft of hand bookbinding: from the stunning bindings of the Arts and Crafts period through to modern examples created some 150 years later. It is also a personal journey for Barry as he researched two bookbinders living in Chorlton, south Manchester, in the early 1900s through to his commissioning of a modern design binding for a book he co-authored on the Arts and Crafts movement in Manchester. This well-illustrated talk will explore beautiful hand bound books either made locally or held locally in public collections.
