Course synopsis
Three-Part ON-LINE workshop on the theme ‘surface journeys’
This three-part practical workshop will be delivered using a digital platform. The tutor will demonstrate each of the three topics during a two-hour ‘live’ stream, together with an oral q&a session, videos and a chat box detailing resources, processes and references for further study.
The tutor will e-mail you nearer the time with log-in details. A PDF document outlining each topic and materials/equipment required will be sent to each student via e-mail upon enrolment.
Students are encouraged to undertake private study outside of the ‘live’ streams and a private Facebook Group 'Textiles at Home' is available for 24/7 peer support.
Workshop 2: Stitching Textured Surfaces
Friday 6 May 2022 [Live-Stream: 9.30am-11.30am]
Recorded for ‘watching on demand’
The
second workshop aims to extend your knowledge of textured surfaces by
integrating both free-machine embroidery and hand-stitching, with needle
punching techniques.
A series of small samples will be produced to explore how marks made with stitch can introduce density, rhythm, softness and movement alongside the textured marks of needle-felting. The resulting samples will then be developed further into small pieces such as brooches and buttons.
Workshops I and III can be booked separately.
