Reading The Book Of Daniel

All CategoriesArchaeology, History & History of Art

Course synopsis

The Book of Daniel is the only truly apocalyptic book in the Hebrew Bible. It is well known for the stories in its first half such as The Burning Fiery Furnace and Daniel in the Lion's Den. Its second half is full of strange visions, full of monstrous beasts and ominous coded "prophecies".

We will examine when and why was it written, and what influence it had in kick-starting a whole new genre of apocalyptic writing for Jews and Christians - including the Book of Revelation. The Book of Daniel is one of the most debated and misunderstood books in the Bible, one that needs careful handling. This 6 week course will cover two chapters per session giving a chance to unravel its mysteries and its message
