Music
involving a keyboard instrument
In this course we will listen to music from the past three hundred years involving a keyboard instrument, mainly the piano but in earlier years the harpsichord and the clavichord, and in recent years the celesta. The music may be solo music for the keyboard instrument, chamber music involving a keyboard instrument, concertos or other orchestral music in which the keyboard instrument plays a significant role. This allows for an enormous variety of music which it should be fun to explore.
Spring
First and last thoughts
Each week we will listen to some of the first music composed by a particular composer, often before they had developed an individual style, and then some of the music they wrote towards the end of their creative life. Composers selected will range over the last three hundred years so that the music listened to in the course should be very varied.
Courses with this title have been offered before but the composers selected this time will mainly be different to those considered in previous courses or, where they are the same, mainly different music will be selected.
