Course synopsis
The course examines the role of
Jerusalem as a holy city for the three monotheistic faiths of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam. Covering 4000 years it compares Canaanite, Israelite,
Second Temple, Byzantine, Islamic, Crusader, Ottoman and modern Jerusalem and
the ways in which the city functions in an emblematic way in the various
traditions
