Course synopsis
A curtain is falling across the face of Europe…not the iron curtain but a curtain of extremeism in which the left behind have suddenly become energised to take part in a system they always considered excluded them …..Politics!
In many countries as the gulf between the ultra-rich and the ultra-poor widens, there is a growing distrust of politicians that reaches back as far as the Sixties when an age of new luxuries and entitlement began to turn bitter even as people “never had it so good”.
The seeds of apathy and dissatisfaction were sown and slowly grew and flourished beyond Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair into a new age of Austerity brought about by the banks who crashed the economic train into the buffers.
The answers to complicated issues became simplistic along with the politics of isolationism, withdrawal from Europe and the ultimate blame for everyone’s woes…..immigration.
As wars displaced ever growing number of refugees many traditional politicians were
rejected in favour of individuals who claimed to be “not politicians” who were favoured by a balancing group of electors who had in the past been either disinterested or hostile to the great game. Weighed in the scales, they wanted to take back their countries and make them Great again.
• If its too good to be true – its probably Populism
