All CategoriesArchaeology, History & History of Art

Course synopsis

What is architecture? This course provides a fun factual introduction to more than 2000 years of architectural history of the United Kingdom.

Architecture is about a basic human need ‘shelter’, but it also connects us to society and the world around us.  It also evokes reactions and emotions through its use of materials, styles, forms and details and can influence our mental and physical health.

Starting with the earliest buildings in the UK, I will travel around our kingdom introducing and explaining how our buildings evolved and who built them.

I will also focus on our great heritage here in the North West of England so that you can see first hand the great buildings on our doorstep and see architecture come alive.
