Mesopotamia, or the land between the Two Rivers, was one of the birth places of urban life and writing.
This course will examine the history of the peoples of ancient Iraq from the Sumerians to the Assyrian and Babylonians until their eclipse by the empires of the Persians and the Greeks. It will also examine the evidence of the surviving literature from the region including myths, poems, proverbs and chronicles. We will also note the impact the peoples of this land had on biblical history and literature and right down to the present day.
