Course synopsis
By 400BC Athens had been defeated by Sparta and would never be the power it once was. But Sparta's moment of glory was short lived. Soon it would be challenged by Thebes and they in turn would be challenged by the rising power of Macedon in the north. Yet the intellectual life of the Greeks continued unabated. This was the age of Plato and Aristotle and the writing of Greek comic drama still flourished. But by the year 300BC the world was changing and entering into the Hellenistic Age - a product of the expansion of the Greek world into the east following the exploits of Alexander the Great
