Practical Identification Of Sphagnum

All Events

This event has been organized by Simon Caporn on behalf of the newly formed Friends of Lindow Moss group. The class will focus on the bog-building Sphagnum moss but will start with a presentation about the world of mosses and liverworts and how we can identify and name these tiny plants. After the theory, we will move to hands-on examination of a range of fresh specimens and learn how to distinguish species of Sphagnum moss from each other and from other mosses and liverworts. After a lunch break, there will be an optional short walk, for those who would like to join us, to Lindow Common to see these plants in the field.

Without sphagnum moss there would be no Lindow Moss!
