Veronica Jane Gatti has been an icon painter since 2003
She will talk about the process of painting a sacred image as a slow and accurate transformation of the natural artistic materials onto a painted surface that represents theological meanings.
The techniques used in Iconography have been mostly unchanged from the Byzantium age through the centuries. In fact these techniques, that include the use of wood, gold and tempera, are related to the symbolism of icons. Maintaining this tradition is fundamental in passing on the intact meaning and the beauty of icons.
This talk will trace each practical step of creating an icon, to guide you in the discovery of the origin of the sacred Christian images and the interpretation of the symbols used in them.
