Whether you have no experience of textiles at all, have merely dabbled in the subject over the years, or are an experienced practitioner then this course can accommodate 'you'!

In a relaxed setting, the aim is to enable students to explore fabric manipulation, embellishment, dyeing, distressing and other processes in a contemporary context. The less experienced class members develop a basic skill-set, whereas those at improvers’ level have an opportunity to immerse themselves in self-initiated projects to create a small collection of two- and three-dimensional pieces.

Each class is of three-hour duration, allowing sufficient time for tutor demonstrations, videos to explain technical processes, question & answers and supervised practical sessions at the students’ own pace. In addition, a private Facebook group 'Textiles at Home' provides a platform for peer support.

You will have access to resources 24/7 on the Google Education digital platform. Your tutor will guide you on how to log in and navigate your way around the Topics, which are designed to support your learning. Should an unexpected event occur such as illness, major incident etc. the course can be delivered remotely via Google Meet to ensure your learning is not disrupted in any way.

The tutor outlines safe practices for using materials, tools and equipment. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, where possible, although the Guild hasa small selection of machines. The ability to use a sewing machine at abasic level is desirable, but hand-sewing is also a feature of thecourse. NOTE: There is a small fee (cash only) for materials payable to the tutor, each term.
